Religious Tolerance and Intolerance in the Early History of Charleston

Modern Charleston County is a diverse community whose members embrace a variety of religious traditions. Contrary to some reports, however, the early inhabitants of the South Carolina Lowcountry did not enjoy the freedom of conscience that we take for granted today. Join CCPL's historian, Dr. Nic Butler, for an overview of the history of religious tolerance and intolerance in the Charleston area, from the arrival of the first colonists to the South Carolina Constitution of 1790.
