Food and Faith IV: Diverse Women, One Calling
Monday, January 27, 2020 from 6:30-8:30 PM
Arnold Hall, 96 Wentworth Street, Charleston, SC, 29403
The Charleston community gathered on January 27, 2020 for a conversation about cultural and religious similarities and divergences between Jews and Muslims regarding female leadership in the medical profession.
The program began with a dialogue between Dr. Arlene Shawinsky Rosenthal member of Dor Tikvah, a modern Orthodox congregation, and Dr. Reshma Khan, member of the Central Mosque of Charleston. It was moderated by Mary Ellen Giess, Senior Director of the Interfaith Youth Core.
Following the moderated discussions, attendees formed breakout groups and discussed issues beyond food, including comparing Jewish and Muslim prayers, rituals, scriptures, and concept of charity, as well as participant-sourced topics. Discussions coincided with a delicious sampling of traditional Jewish (Kosher) foods and Halal dishes from the Muslim world.
Admission was free and all were welcome!
