Calligraphy as Meditation: An Interfaith Hands-On Workshop

Sunday, October 8th, 2023 at 1-3pm

College of Charleston Alumni Center at the School of Education, 86 Wentworth St.

Zen calligraphy is both a joyful, present-moment expression of artistry and a timeless interpretation of Buddha's teachings. Judaic and Islamic traditions incorporate the fluid beauty of calligraphy as both art and spirituality, too.

In this experiential workshop, local Buddhist Art Scholar Jeanne Mays, Buddhist Rev. Heather Mann and Charleston Interreligious Council friends from various faiths will explore calligraphy as a spiritual practice across traditions. You will be guided through the mindful process of creating your own calligraphy design--connecting paper, brush, and ink to your mind, body and breath. You will create your own beautiful and inspiring work of calligraphy, something  to take home and display as a reminder of profound spiritual truths.

This event is free and open to the public. All supplies will be provided. Participation is limited to 35 participants and advanced registration is required by clicking here.
